Kano Hisba Board Apprehends 22 Individuals in Hotel Raid, Including Minors
The Kano State Hisba Board has conducted a significant raid on a hotel in the Kumbotso Local Government Area, leading to the apprehension of 22 individuals, including the manager of the Stephrica Guest Palace. The operation, which took place at Kureken Sani, targeted alleged illicit activities and resulted in the detention of suspects based on a tip-off.
The Deputy Commandant of the Hisba Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed the arrests in a statement. The apprehended group consisted of 10 males and 11 females. The operation was prompted by intelligence received from concerned citizens who reported suspicious activities at the hotel.
A particularly concerning aspect of the raid is the discovery that a significant portion of the detained individuals are minors. Dr. Aminudeen stated that the ages of these underage individuals range from 12 to 19 years old. This finding has prompted a stern warning from the Hisba Board to all hotel owners and operators within the state. They are being cautioned against admitting individuals below the legal age into their establishments. Failure to comply with this directive will result in severe sanctions.
The Hisba Board has reiterated its commitment to upholding Shari’a law and will not tolerate any activities that contravene its principles. Residents are encouraged to continue reporting any instances of alleged violations to the authorities.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. While the name of the hotel manager has not been publicly disclosed, Dr. Aminudeen indicated that all suspects, including the manager, will face legal proceedings once the investigation is complete. The aim is to ensure that those found guilty are held accountable for their actions. The suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in court on Friday, with the Deputy Commandant emphasizing that they would “reap what they sow.”
This operation highlights the proactive stance of the Kano State Hisba Board in monitoring and enforcing moral and religious codes within the state. The focus on underage individuals in such establishments underscores a broader concern for the protection of youth and the prevention of potential exploitation. The board’s warning serves as a clear message to businesses operating in the hospitality sector to adhere strictly to age-related regulations and to foster an environment that is safe and compliant with established laws. The continued vigilance of community members in providing intelligence is also crucial to the board’s effectiveness in maintaining order and upholding societal values. The legal ramifications for the apprehended individuals, particularly the hotel manager, are expected to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider engaging in similar activities.
