Bauchi State Police Grapples with Critical Resource Shortages Hindering Crime Fighting

The Bauchi State Police Command is facing significant operational challenges due to critical shortages in personnel, arms, and ammunition, severely hampering its capacity to effectively combat rising criminal activities across the state. The stark reality of these limitations was recently brought to the forefront by Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, during a meeting at the command headquarters with Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 12, Vungmoh Kwaimo.

Commissioner Aliyu articulated the pressing concerns that are impeding the command’s operational effectiveness. “At this point, it is pertinent to inform the Assistant Inspector-General of Police on a few pressing concerns affecting the command’s operational capabilities,” he stated.

Key Constraints Identified by the Command:

• Manpower Deficit: A significant shortage of personnel is directly impacting deployment strategies and the ability of the police force to respond with the necessary speed and efficiency. This is particularly concerning given the escalating security threats that Bauchi State is currently facing. The current workforce is stretched thin, making it difficult to cover all areas and respond promptly to incidents.
• Insufficient Arms and Ammunition: Beyond personnel, the command is also experiencing a critical lack of adequate arms and ammunition. “We will examine the challenges highlighted by the commissioner of police, particularly the issues of manpower shortages and other operational constraints, and do our best to address them,” Kwaimo assured.
